Welcome to the Farm – Our Story Begins Here

Hi there, and welcome to my little corner of the internet!

My name is Raquel, and I’m the proud owner of an 80-acre farm that’s been my home—and my heart—since 2006. I’m a single mom of two amazing kids who are now grown, and this farm grew from a simple dream I held close: to raise my children the way I was raised—on a farm, surrounded by animals, land, and lessons that can’t be learned in town.

I grew up with dirt under my nails and critters in the yard, and I always knew that when I had kids of my own, I wanted them to have that same kind of life. Town just never felt right. So when my children were 10 and 7, I made the leap and bought 80 acres, an old 1974 trailer home, and what could barely be called a barn—a shell of a single-car garage, really. But the land… the land spoke to me.

It was when I walked past that old shell of a garage and into the pasture that I saw them—those cottonwood trees clustered together like quiet sentinels. In that moment, I knew this place was home.

The trailer needed a lot of work—and still does, to this day—but we made it livable, and the memories we built here quickly outgrew the walls. My children raised rabbits and pygmy goats, while I began my slow and steady collection of horses. The rabbits have come and gone, and the goats my son bred and sold have moved on too, but the heart of this farm keeps beating.

Today, I keep a small herd of Nubian and Boer cross goats for milk, a flock of barnyard mix chickens for fresh eggs, and the horses that have long had my heart. Every corner of this place holds a story—from fence repairs and muddy boots to quiet mornings with the animals and the changing seasons that shape our days.

This blog is where I’ll share those stories. Whether you’re a fellow farm kid, someone dreaming of a life closer to the land, or just here for a glimpse of the slower life, I hope you’ll feel at home here. I’ll be posting about day-to-day farm life, the animals, the lessons, and the beauty in the hard work.

Thanks for being here. I’m glad you found your way to the farm.

With love from the land,

Raquel
